"When I get things going

The going gets rough

So I ask myself

Why get up” - Bill Carter, Ruth Ellen Ellsworth (recorded by the Fabulous Thuderbirds)

You know I love to celebrate The National Day Calendar. I love the goofy ones (static electricity gets a day?) and the foody ones - I’m all for finding a reason to “mini” cheat on my diet. Today won’t put on any weight but it might take some off - it’s National Get Up Day. Begun in 2017, the inspiration is from January’s National Skating Month - getting back up being a huge part of learning how to skate. It’s about perseverance, that life is “slippery.” We are going to fall and we have two choices – get up or stay down. Here’s my take:

Get up! If you can do it today, you can do it every day.

Get up! You’re probably going to be hurting emotionally, mentally or physically whether you get up or not. So if you are physically able, get up.

Get up! You were given a chance to live - either for the first time or second - so get up and celebrate life.

Get up! Some of our friends and family didn’t get that second chance - so get up and celebrate their lives.

Get up! Someone is going to make you wish you’d stayed in bed. The next person you meet may make you smile or have a great story to tell. Greet and talk to both because you don’t know which is which.

Get up! Get off Facebook (after you read this post) and do something good instead of complaining about something bad.

Get up! Get outside if you are able and enjoy God’s beautiful creation. You might just happen to spot a gorgeous cardinal land on a fence right next to you just as you turn the corner and stay there only long enough for you to say “Hi Ma!” (My Mother loved cardinals, so every one is a visit from her)

Get up! Show us a picture or write a line showing/telling us about what you accomplished because you got up, even if it’s only telling us that you got up today - we’ll all be glad to hear from you. We may know why you didn’t want to get up or we may not. You might be missing a chunk of your lung or a whole lot of your internal parts or have a figurative hole in your heart or maybe just have a little titanium valve and a few inches of plastic, or severely damaged aorta (with a couple of aneurysms, if you’re a blessed survivor like me) - but GET UP!

Today’s literal get up and go was a mile and a half around the Chickamauga Quarry, which supplied limestone for the Chickamauga Dam, 1936/37 #GetUp

 How did i get here?

In my journeys over the last three years, both physical and personal/internal, I have discovered Memphis and a drive to create. This site will display my goals to informally promote and tell stories about Memphis and the surrounding areas - music, culture, history - through my observations, photography, and telling the stories of people I meet along the way.
