Capture the Essence of Memphis -  Memphis Music & Heritage Festival

Memphis, TN. August 17, 2016. The Center for Southern Folklore will transform two blocks of Main Street into a living, breathing, creative display of the arts, music, and heritage of the Memphis and the Delta Region. The Memphis Music & Heritage Festival will be held on Labor Day Weekend, September 3rd and 4th 2016. This always free family-friendly festival will feature music, arts and crafts, dancers and chefs from the cultural crossroads of Memphis.

There will be four stages on South Main between Peabody Place and Union, and two stages inside the Center at 119 South Main. Our culture and heritage will be presented on these stages from 11 am to 11 pm both days. For updates and schedules, please see the festival event page.

“Over the last thirty years of the festival we have been honored to celebrate the music and heritage of Memphis and the Delta Region” said Judy Peiser, Co-Founder Executive Producer of the Center.

The festival continues to be free thanks to sponsors, donors, and volunteers who offer their treasure and talent. Please support the Center for Southern Folklore and the festival – to donate or volunteer, please visit our web page. Food and beverage vendors will be at the festival and food will be available in the Center. We will also be selling festival memorabilia, but don’t forget our Folklore Store featuring original art, CD’s and DVD’s, prints, regional topic books, and posters from previous festivals.

Founded in 1972, the Center for Southern Folklore is a nonprofit organization that documents and presents the music, culture, arts, and rhythms of the South.

 How did i get here?

In my journeys over the last three years, both physical and personal/internal, I have discovered Memphis and a drive to create. This site will display my goals to informally promote and tell stories about Memphis and the surrounding areas - music, culture, history - through my observations, photography, and telling the stories of people I meet along the way.
